History of Jodeco Road United Methodist Church

In 1990, at the annual session of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, the establishment of a new church in the Stockbridge area was approved. The Rev. Michael Roper was appointed to start the new church.
The first service was held on Sunday, July 8, 1990 at the Jodeco Road Day Care Center.  Seven persons joined at this first service.

An extensive telemarketing campaign was undertaken during October 1990 and within  six months, the United Methodist Women, United Methodist Men and the United Methodist Youth Fellowship were established. Charter Sunday was held on July 14, 1991 with sixty-two members on roll.

On May 9, 1993 Bishop J. Lloyd Knox led the ground breaking service on fifteen acres of land purchased by the Church Development Committee of the North Georgia Conference. This is where our church now stands.

Work on the new church building began in June 1993 and the first worship service was held in the new building on Sunday, December 5, 1993 with an afternoon Consecration Service led by Bishop Knox.

In 1994, new Sunday School classes had begun, Vacation  Bible School was an annual event and participation began in the Community Easter Sunrise Service. Outreach to the community began with ministries through "Helping In His Name Food Pantry" and "Samaritans Together".  Family trees were even planted along the existing driveway in October 1994.

In June of 1995, the North Georgia Annual Conference appointed J. Michael Pinson pastor.

In 1998, the church chartered Cub Scout Pack 160.  Groundbreaking for additional Sunday School rooms was on Nov 22, 1998.  In October, 1999 the driveway was named "Kuglar Drive"  in honor of Guynn & Sarah Kuglar's many contributions to JRUMC.  the new addition was dedicated  November, 1999 and the nursery was named in loving memory of Oscar Mealor.

In December 2002, the North Georgia Annual Conference appointed Dr. Brent Ward as pastor. His first Sunday was January 5, 2003.

In February 2008, the church paid off the remaining debt on the building.
